Gay Day At The Zoo is next month on May 7th at the Smithsonian National Zoo! Have fun with the DC Center for the LGBT with interactive music, games, and dance!

The annual Gay Day at the Zoo is a DC favorite for the LGBTQ community! For one day, hundreds of LGBTQ folks, families, and allies come together to show their pride and enjoy the animals and sights at the National Zoological Park.

Fittingly the event takes place every year on International Family Equality Day and is a staple on the calendar for many LGBTQ families.

Let’s fill the Zoo with rainbows! Wear rainbow to represent our community and show you are a part of the event!

Support the work of the DC Center which educates, empowers, celebrates, and connects the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities this weekend!

Staff are still working remotely, and will be checking emails and voicemails multiple times each day. Please reach out to [email protected] to connect with the DC Center, as we are still able to provide services and support.

The situation is changing rapidly, please refer to the CDC’s website and coronavirus.dc.gov for up-to-date information on what you can do to help prevent and slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The DC Center team will be meeting regularly to assess the situation and rest assured that we will open as soon as it is safe to do so, as we know that many of our clients and participants are vulnerable and will need support. New Volunteer: Casa Ruby Meal Coordinator

Photo of Maura

Welcome Maura Kinney. Maura will be working the Casa Ruby meals program, organizing monthly group and individual volunteer dinners. She will also work on creating new projects that will affect the lives of the residents at the Casa Ruby shelters.

Maura has lived in DC since 2009. She enjoys writing, reading, hiking, ice skating, kayaking, and doing crossword puzzles. She works as a technical writer and enjoys learning about primatology and U.S. presidential history.

Maura decided to become a volunteer with The DC Center because “although queer rights have come a long way, our fight isn’t over yet.”

We are excited to have Maura on board, if you would like to work with us and give back to Casa Ruby contact: [email protected]

Volunteers Needed for Capital Pride Interfaith Service

Volunteers Needed for Capital Pride Interfaith Choir

The Capital Pride Interfaith Service is an “integrated service” respectfully demonstrating the breadth, depth, and sincerity of our faith, exposing the lie that anti-gay fundamentalists have a monopoly on faith and religion. We take pride that our community expresses its religious faiths in a myriad of ways, each sacred and revered with years of tradition. This event is with input from across the community annually by Center Faith. The 37th Anniversary Pride Interfaith Celebration will feature the theme that coincides with the Capital Pride celebration.

We are looking for volunteers to help plan the event, as well as help promote the event and provide support during the service.

For more information Contact: Eric Eldritch, (202) 309-5486     [email protected]

To know more about Center Faith, to volunteer in a variety of ways visit thedccenter.org/faith.

This is a free event. If your church, temple, synagogue or faith community would like to sponsor the Pride Interfaith Service you may sign up and make your donation below.   Alternatively, you can mail a check made payable to the DC Center (attention Center Faith) to The DC Center for the LGBT Community, 2000 14th Street NW, Suite 105, Washington DC  20005.
